The Joy of the Scrub

SEDE 101

Your SEDE Bath Soak isn't just for the tub — the same magnesium flakes and Dead Sea salts make for a genuinely good exfoliating scrub. Here's how to do it properly.

Why Exfoliate At All?

Your skin naturally sheds dead cells on its own — that's normal, and it's actually important. The outermost layer of skin, called the stratum corneum, is made up of those dead cells, and it serves a real purpose: protecting the body from water loss, microorganisms, and everyday exposure. Skin isn't "supposed" to be constantly scraped clean.

That said, an occasional scrub — combined with a nourishing, hydrating product afterward — helps skin along in its own natural renewal process. The key word is occasional: once a week is plenty. Daily scrubbing does more harm than good, especially on sensitive skin.

Why Salt Works as a Scrub

Salt is a natural, effective exfoliant because of its texture — the coarser the grain, the more noticeable the scrubbing action. That's exactly why SEDE's Magnesium Flakes and Dead Sea Salts work well for this: they're a genuine mineral texture, not a synthetic bead or filler.

One honest note: a coarser scrub can cause some redness immediately after use, especially on lighter or more sensitive skin. That's a normal skin response to any physical exfoliation, not something to be concerned about — but if your skin is very sensitive, use a lighter hand, or stick to the tub soak instead.

How to Do It

You'll need:

  • A small handful of SEDE Bath Soak

  • Damp skin (do this in the shower, or right after a bath)

  • A washcloth or your hands

Steps:

  1. Wet your skin first — this is easier and gentler on dry skin than starting cold.

  2. Take a small handful of SEDE Bath Soak into your palm.

  3. Apply to skin using gentle, circular motions, working in the direction of your heart — up from your feet and hands, inward along your arms and legs. This is standard technique for any body scrub, not specific to salt.

  4. Focus on rougher areas — elbows, knees, heels — where a little extra texture is welcome. Go lighter on thinner, more sensitive skin.

  5. Rinse thoroughly with warm water.

  6. Pat dry. While skin is still slightly damp, follow up with your SEDE Magnesium Oil, then your SEDE Magnesium Lotion, to lock in moisture right after — the same two-step layer we recommend after any soak or shower.

How Often

Once a week is the sweet spot for most people. If your skin is on the drier or more sensitive side, once every two weeks is plenty. Let your skin tell you — if it feels tight, red, or irritated afterward, you're doing it too often or too hard.
